Attack of the Yaks Expedition

What is it? This 10-day expedition will take you to one of the most breathtaking and distinctive regions of Mongolia, renowned for its stunning rivers, mountains, and unique geological wonders. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey surrounded by magnificent yaks.

We kick off the trip in Mongolia's capital city, Ulanbaatar, and set out early the next morning for Uvurkhangai province, celebrated for its picturesque lakes and mountains. Once we're there, we'll mount our trusty yaks and venture into the region's awe-inspiring landscapes. Expect exhilarating rides over mountains, leisurely strolls through forests and valleys, and a true immersion in nature's grandeur.

Each night, we'll alternate between camping with nomads and utilizing our own moving base camp. You'll have the unique opportunity to stay with herders, ride yaks, and experience the authentic nomadic lifestyle. This expedition offers a more relaxed pace, allowing you to savour the enchanting autumn colours and fully embrace the nomadic way of life. Keep an eye out for an abundance of ripe pine nuts, berries, and currants along the way, offering a delectable treat. In this region of Mongolia, you'll encounter yaks, sheep, goats, and horses. Take pleasure in sampling milk products and witnessing the milking process firsthand. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even try your hand at milking!

During our journey, we might have the chance to witness local yak racing and sporting events, unveiling the remarkable skills of these magnificent creatures and their herders.

Be prepared for genuine autumn weather with sunny blue skies during the day and cool, crisp nights. We may even be fortunate enough to witness a light snowfall.

Don't worry if you've never ridden a yak before. As long as you have some experience with horse riding, you'll be just fine. Although they may appear intimidating, yaks are gentle and lovable beneath their shaggy appearance. Expect approximately 4 hours of riding each day, leaving ample time to explore, capture breathtaking photos, and enjoy camp life.

In the monthly emails leading up to the expedition, we will provide guidance on how to prepare, what to pack, and other useful information.

On our return journey, we will spend one night in Hustai National Park, where you'll have the opportunity to observe Przewalksi horses, deer, and other fascinating wildlife that roam the area.
